FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is GRIDFINITY?

Gridfinity is an open source project, which was brought to life by Zack Freedman.

Its purpose is to create a simple framework for customizable storage solutions, enabled by 3D-Printing. It allows users all around the world to create inter-compatible grids and containers, while adhering to a common standard, as defined on gridfinity.xyz.

What is GRIDFI.CC?

This website offers a powerful configurator with a growing catalog of curated parts. Our team is searching the web for new parts while also creating their own. You can recommend parts yourself using feature requests.

It also makes it easy to organize your configurations and share them with others. You can use the furnitue page to assign configurations to drawers, pieces of furniture and ultimately rooms. This is a great starting point to organize all of your favourite spaces!

How can 3D-printed plastic be sustainable?

You only print what you need.. This minimizes waste and the need for transport, and eliminates the need to store unwanted or unsold stock.

Renewable resources.. Our print-on-demand service primarily offers PLA, which is made using renewable resources like corn starch. Our prints are 100% powered by renewable energy sources (solar, water).

Recycling of failed and unwanted prints.. Prints made of PLA (as well as other filaments) can be ground up into small pellets and recycled into new filament. So even if there is waste, e.g. through failed prints, or you do not need a print any longer, you can recycle it for a new print.

Why do some of the magnet holes contain loose threads of material?

Some files include a small pocket above the magnet holes, which also creates a short thread of exposed material. This helps to further secure magnets when glueing them in the holes. It is not a sign of a failed print.

If you prefer flat bottoms, many containers are available without magnet holes.

How does the pricing work on GRIDFI.CC?

Using our configurator is completely free. Creating an account is not needed. You can use it to calculate the grid dimensions needed to fill your drawers, as well as to plan your layouts. Community parts have their creator and source credited on the parts page. You can download the parts from the source, usually for free. Some parts were created using free scripts or tools - they also list the used script or tool as their source on the parts page.

We also provide our own Gridfi File Service for people looking to save time, in exchange for a service fee. This requires an account. It gives instant and convenient access to the files used in a single configuration, which we pre-generate (if needed) and store on our servers. This eliminates the time necessary to find and generate the configured files yourself. You can either print these files on your own, or use third-party print-on-demand providers. GRIDFI.CC does not sell individual files and recommends sourcing and/or generating them yourself.

Finally, we also provide our own print-on-demand service for select countries. With competitive pricing, thourough quality checks and a lot of experience with the eco-system, GRIDFI.CC print-on-demand makes Gridfinity easy and affordable for everyone.
